  • My Medical Student

I have a third year medical student now. Her name's Wendy and she's a third year newly minted into working in the hospital. I think it's so cute how these medical students run around in short white coats and follow us residents. But then again I was one such student just four months ago.

I have to have Wendy follow me around the hospital and watch me write orders and see patients, but I'm also responsible for teaching which has been the most fun. I try to incorporate everything the residents who I thought were phenomenal did for me and what I wish some residents did for me.

They say teachers make a huge impact on your life and I totally agree. You always remember the funny teachers who also inspired you to want to do your best. The ones who just seemed to know everything. The ones you felt confident would help you learn and master the fine art of whatever it was you were learning. You remember the ones you admired and hoped to be just like them. The best part of teaching medical students is you don't get the students who don't try or lack interest, and you rarely get anyone who doesn't pay attention to what you're teaching. I couldn't deal with that classroom bullsh_t.
